PRO’s Favourite Eye Shadow Primers

You wouldn’t drive your car without insurance would you? No, so why would you sit there and create a fabulous eye make up look without applying eye primer first? Ok, ok I sound dramatic but I got burnt on the weekend. I was in a big rush to run out the door and thought I would whack a little cream shadow on my lids to smoke my eyes up a bit. I couldn’t find an eye shadow primer lying about so I popped a little loose powder on my eyelids first. In no longer than 20 minutes my eye shadow look a mess and I had to wipe it all off. I was one greasy eye-lidded gal. Not hot. So in an attempt to re-iterate the importance of eye shadow primers, (to myself more than anything) here are a couple of my favourites:

Gorgeous Cosmetics iPrime Eye Shadow Base $35

Texture: Thick cream/putty like

Application: Tiniest bit is needed, with your finger or a synthetic brush

PRO Rating: 4.5/5. I love this primer, been using it for 4 years and my eye shadow has only ever creased once.

Pro’s: Lasts forever! White colour enhanced the colour of eye shadows.

Con’s: N/A

Bare Escentuals Prime Time Brightening Eyelid Primer in Brightening Pearl $24.95

Mecca Cosmetica

Texture: Light cream

Application: Use sparingly with finger or synthetic brush

PRO Rating: 4/5. Such a cool primer, quick and easy, I use this when I can’t be bothered putting eye shadow in as it’s got a gorgeous sheen to it.

Pro’s: Beautiful texture, shimmery formula doubles up as a nice base eye shadow.

Con’s: Not suitable if you want a matte look, the shimmer does restrict you a little.

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion $30 USD

Texture: Light

Application: Use sponge applicator to apply a small amount.

PRO Rating: 5/5. This is the creme de la creme of eye shadow primers! Keeps shadows on even the oiliest eyelids, highly regarded by makeup artists all over the world.

Pro’s: It’s just THAT good.

Con’s: It’s not easily available in Australia. Boo.

PRO Tips on Eye Shadow Primers

- Apply a SMALL amount. You may feel compelled to whack a whole lot on but don’t! This is will have an adverse reaction and cause your shadow to crease from product overload.

- ALWAYS wear eye shadow primer when wearing eye shadow. Even for a natural look. It takes 2 seconds to apply and you can use your finger.
