Shop Penhaligon's

It all started when Mr William Penhaligon, originally from rural Cornwall, arrived in the bustling city of London in the 1860s to seek his fortune. With skills as a barber, he set out with an open mind and his heart set on starting a business. To support his family he set up as a barber in hammam, the Turkish baths on Jermyn Street. This is how inspiration struck - Mr Penhaligon decided to bottle the wonderful aroma and with a creative flair, he blended what became the Hammam Bouquet.

William Penhaligon opened his own little perfumery shop in that same hammam in London in 1874, and Penhaligon’s was born. From Hammam Bouquet, Mr William Penhaligon was inspired by the exciting discoveries and adventures of the late nineteenth century, creating fragrances inspired by the world over. Penhaligon’s clientele list continued to expand, including the king of Persia and Queen Victoria, who were both impressed.

A quintessentially British institution, Penhaligon’s became Court Barber and Perfumer to Queen Victoria. From the iconic bottles, to the fragrance recipes that William Penhaligon himself wrote, Penhaligon’s today uphold the same dedication to quality that made Penhaligon’s so famous. With ingredients sourced from all around the world, the word on the street is that Penhaligon’s is still loved by A-listers and royalty to this very day.

What are the most famous Penhaligon’s perfumes?

  • Penhaligon’s Halfeti
Inspired by traded goods from Turkey, this feminine fragrance is one with both guts and glory. At once light yet compelling, Halfeti draws on the strength of oud, sandalwood and resinous vanilla to create a spicy yet skin-close dream.

  • Penhaligon’s Empressa
All her beauty, airs and graces couldn’t prepare you for that sharp-as-a-tack mind. A floral masterpiece floating over a sweetly tame base of cocoa, frankincense and amber, this Empressa is as much substance as she is style.

Good value for money

Not a fan of the scents. Keeping two, giving the other 3 to my bf as they’re too masculine.

The two I kept remind me of Chanel perfumes and they’re interesting but won’t be my signature scents anytime soon. After all the amazing reviews I was convinced I’d love them. Definitely try before you buy!

Lovely rose fragrance

I'm a huge rose perfume fan. I got this as a gift and it's a lovely fragrance that I can best describe as soft rose. Lasting power is quite good. While it's lovely, I personally wouldn't repurchase, for the price it doesn't smell that special. Still a nice addition to my collection

Wearable white floral for those with a sweet tooth!

Disclaimer ---
I work at Adore, I'm using this disclaimer where I don't own this perfume but I've tested it often enough that I feel I can talk about it.
So you know a bit about me, I managed the scent room project, I'm not an expert but I'm a big perfume nerd... to the tune of having a perfume spreadsheet. I just like talking about perfumes!

On to the review:
I've heard a lot about Penhaligon's, but usually Empress and Halfeti are usually the ones people are talking about as being the classics. I'm not really a floral person but I like the concept of a cuddly white floral, and I really like Amouage Honour Woman as a great example of this.

While I'm not a floral person, I'm definitely a fan of easy to wear gourmands. This is 50% a cuddly white floral, and 50% an almost edible, not overly sweet caramel.

I can't emphasise enough that this is very wearable - the sillage isn't too strong but it is long lasting, and on my skin at least, sits as a skin-close fragrance after about an hour.

Based on the notes I wouldn't have picked this for myself, but I can't believe how lovely this is.
